The Palliative Care Medicines Pharmacy Network- SA initiative is a network of 30 metropolitan and regional South Australian community pharmacies who have been selected as part of a program funded by the South Australian Government to provide improved access to a core list of palliative care medicines (CML), including providing the medicines after hours in urgent situations, and support for people with life-limiting illnesses.
The network will complement the existing community pharmacy palliative care medicines access and services, including the three 24-7 pharmacies located in northern, southern and central Adelaide.
Pharmacies within the Palliative Care Medicines Pharmacy Network maintain a minimum stock of core medicines to ensure people approaching the end of life are able to access the medicines when they need them, particularly if their usual pharmacy does not have stock available.
Pharmacists and pharmacy staff involved in the network can also provide support, information and advice to palliative care patients their carers and other health professionals.
